There is so much to see and do for all ages whatever the weather within walking distance or a short drive from the house.

 

In the immediate vicinity there is a traditional style pub just round the corner and a Sainsburys Local, 5 minutes walk away which stocks all essentials, on the same stretch there are other shops, fast food takeaways, restaurants and pubs.

The Pavilion just across the road on to the seafront is a stylish café offering afternoon teas, light lunches and a hot or cold beverage. The Beachdeck, just a short walk along the sea front or The Perch Cafe, both offer lovely breakfasts and lunches.

There are numerous hotels close by which offer meals to non residents, the Langham for afternoon tea or a Sunday roast is a particular favourite.

 

Getting about:

Stagecoach run a dotto land train service along the entire seafront promenade during the summer months. The two trains run between Holywell and the Sovereign Harbour, stopping at the following points along the way: Wish Tower Slopes, Eastbourne Pier, Treasure Island, Fort Fun & Sovereign Centre. All day tickets are available.

You can journey across the spectacular South Downs Way and see some of Eastbournes top attractions in an open top bus with commentary. Discover Eastbourne's history, stunning views of Beachy Head and the natural history of the South Downs. You can hop on hop off to see the sights, stops include Redoubt Fortress, Cuckmere Haven, Beachy Head and Birling Gap. Buses run every 30 minutes (from April 2017)

 

Attractions:

All these places below are less than a 30 minute walk away (some are less than a 5 minute walk), most are reached by walking along the seafront promenade which is flat and smooth for pushchairs, scooters etc.

 

Treasure Island:

Perfect outside on summer days, there's splash pools to play in and an adventure playground. Pirate Crazy Golf is open til late in the summer perfect for older children. There is an indoor soft play if the weather is not so good. There is a café indoor and then approached from outside the lovely Beachdeck Café which does delicious meals and is open late.

 

Redoubt Fortress:

A Georgian fortress which is due to be redeveloped.  Previously you could uncover over 200 years of history and discover its hidden secrets. One of the South Coast's most historic landmarks, there was always something going on here, re-enactments, exhibitions, talks and astrological evenings where you could look through powerful telescopes. We are looking forward to seeing what this fortress will host in its next chapter!

 

Fort Fun:

Another attraction that has something for everyone both inside and out. An adventure park outside with rides and bumper cars, bouncy air pillow and huge waterpark. Inside is a soft play split into areas for babies, toddlers and older children.

 

Bandstand:

Our open air music venue, so many different acts and tribute bands play here every week covering all music tastes. They have fireworks every Wednesday at 10pm from June - September after the concert.

 

Whitley Road Recreation Ground:

Refurbished with all new play equipment. Large field for dog walking and ball games.   

 

Princes Park:

Has 2 play parks one aimed for slightly older children and the other for under 6's which also has a splashpark open June - September, there's a large pond where you can feed ducks and swans and a large field which is good for kite flying, football and games. The Perch Cafe, pitch and putt which is open during peak times. Loads of events go on here throughout the year.

 

The Pier:

The Pier is a great place to visit. It has numerous cafes and small shops, a nightclub and the Ocean Suite. Perfect for a nice walk around a traditional Victorian pier, ideal for watching Airbourne.

 

 

If you wish to venture further afield some brilliant places to visit with children that are less than 30 minutes away are:

 

Miniature Steam Railway:

Ride around the lake on a miniature steam train, then relax with something tasty from the café while the children play in the numerous play parks or get lost in the maze.

 

Knockhatch:

A small farm with animals, rides, indoor and outdoor play equipment. There is also laser tag and a dry slope ski centre for older children. Paintballing can also be done here if booked in advance.

 

Drusillas:

An award winning attraction just outside Eastbourne. Features a mini zoo, Hello Kitty World with car and tea cup rides, Go safari area with rides & a safari train and numerous play areas both inside and outside including a large splash park. You can easily spend all day here.  

 

 

Events:

There is always something going on in Eastbourne whatever you are into.

If sports or active pursuits are your thing there is amongst others the international tennis at Devonshire Park, local marathon and trekathon, cycling festival and extreme sports weekend. 

If arts and culture are more your style you can enjoy numerous shows and exhibitions at the local theatres and galleries, there are 5 theatres in total and the impressive Towner Art Gallery.

There are many free events that run in the town including continental markets, 999 emergency services display weekend and Airbourne the biggest air show of its kind.
